The Samsung Galaxy S III is likely to match if not top the success of its predecessors, the Samsung Galaxy S and Galaxy S II which have now sold in excess of 50 million units.
The Galaxy S III’s run to the top started early with Samsung announcing that pre-orders had topped 9 million devices about two weeks ahead of its European launch in late May. Since then, Samsung has been expanding global availability but “overwhelming demand” has also delayed some launches. Canada’s release date was pushed back from June 20th to June 27th and U.S. carriers have also been hit with delays. Samsung expects the Galaxy S III to eventually reach 145 counties and 296 carriers.
JK Shin, President of IT & Mobile Communications Division, has now told Reuters that Samsung expects to top sales of 10 million Galaxy S III units sometime in July. If so, it will have reached that milestone faster than its predecessors.
