Samsung has been teasing us about flexible displays for a while now, having shownoff a 4.5-inch WVGA display as far back as CES 2011. It has now confirmed to CNET that it will again have flexible screens on display at CES 2013. Don’t expect something quite as far out as this video promises:
In fact Samsung Display, a Samsung spin-off, will have two prototypes to show off. One will be a 5.5-inch display aimed at smartphones. It will have an HD (1280×720) resolution and a density of 267 pixels-per-inch. If somewhat larger is more your thing, it will also show off a 55-inch one.
There is no word yet on which products the 5.5-inch display could make its way into. The rumoured Samsung Galaxy S IV has been tipped as possible candidates but maybe the honour will fall to the Samsung Galaxy Note III instead if it keeps the same size display as the Galaxy Note II rather than the rumoured 6.3-inch AMOLED one.
It is also not clear whether these displays will carry the Youm brand name Samsung Display announced earlier this year.
