Rumour: What Google has on tap for October 29th Android event

Google AndroidWith the promise that “the playground is now open,” Google will host an Android event on October 29th. It is widely expected that Google will use the event to unveil at least one new Nexus device and an updated version of Android. Courtesy of “a source with knowledge of Google’s plans, The Next Web now claims to know exactly what Google has in mind.

On the tablet side, Google will announce two new models for its Nexus 7 lineup. The first will boast 32GB of onboard memory (and sell for CA$269.99?)while the second will match that and add HSPA+ connectivity.

Google also looks set to announce its rumoured 10-inch tablet built by Samsung. Supporting earlier rumours, the report indicates that it will run Android 4.2 Jelly Bean and offer a 16:10 display with a resolution of 2,560 by 1,600 pixels (299 PPI). The tablet is codenamed Manta and looks set to be launched at the Google Nexus 10.

On the smartphone side, Google is set to partner with LG to launch the oft-rumoured LG Nexus 4. Specifications are well-known (1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, 4.7-inch display, 2GB RAM, and 16GB of storage) at this point and it is set to run Android 4.2.

As for Android 4.2 itself, it will retain the Jelly Bean name. It will come with a number of new features. “Content in the center” will allow users to access Play Store content from a widget while “Tablet Sharing” will offer support for multiple users, giving each their own email and apps. The panoramic camera setting will also be enhanced to support both horizontal and vertical movements.

All in all, October 29th promises to be quite exciting for Android fans.
