The upcoming Tango release of Windows Phone will focus on bringing Windows Phone to lower-specification devices. Ahead of its release, Duico Stefania, director of the Windows Phone division for Microsoft Italy, reportedly told WindowsPhoneItaly that the release will be known as Windows Phone 7.5 Refresh.
The name may not be the most glamorous but it seems to fit the release which focuses on bringing Windows Phone to a wider range of devices rather than new functionality (although a number of improvements are also coming). And at least, the new release does have a name that distinguishes it from other releases.
In terms of version numbers, it looks like the version number will remain at 7.5 with an incremental point release added. The next major version, codenamed Apollo, is expected to be known as Windows Phone 8 although Microsoft has yet to confirm this.
