Solo Mobile, one of Bell’s flanker brands, could be about to stop signing up new customers. According to a leaked document obtained by Mobile Syrup, the carrier will stop activating new customers within a month:
“As of May 17, 2012 Solo Mobile will no longer be activating new customers (both postpaid and prepaid). Existing Solo Mobile customers will not be impacted by this change; they will continue to enjoy great rates, amazing Canada-wide coverage and affordable devices.”
Not all is lost for current customers. They will be unaffected by these changes and will not be required to port over to Bell (although they will have that option). Solo Mobile is also set to launch three new phones, suggesting it is not quite dead yet:
- Samsung Galaxy W
- Samsung Galaxy 551
- Samsung C414
No reason was provided for Bell’s decision. With a second flanker brand, Virgin Mobile, Bell may have decided to focus its marketing efforts on two brands instead of three.
