Rumour: Samsung Galaxy Note 2 to use a flexible AMOLED display

SamsungRumours that the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 will use a UBP (Unbreakable Plane) display have resurfaced. In an article that looks at recent and upcoming AMOLED display development, the Korea IT Times reports that Samsung’s upcoming ‘phablet’ will not only use a 5.5-inch AMOLED flexible display but that it will incorporate the UBP technology to reduce the thickness by 0.4 millimeters. The saved space could be used for a larger battery.

The use of a flexible display suggests that the Galaxy Note 2 could come with a curved display. It would not be the first time that Samsung offers a curved display on a device. It has already done so in devices such as the Google Nexus S and Galaxy Nexus, albeit without UBP.

Samsung had earlier this year indicated that flexible display production would start this year. Branded as Youm, these promise to be “thinner, lighter, and unbreakable.”

Samsung is expected to unveil the Galaxy Note 2 at its next Unpacked 2012 event on August 29th.
