Rumour: RIM’s 2012 product roadmap revealed

Research In MotionMore recent upcoming RIM product news have focused on product cancellations rather than new devices. First the BlackBerry Milan apparently got the axe and then came word that only RIM was only focusing on BlackBerry 10 device. New details obtained by N4BB suggest that things may not be quite so bleak.

On the tablet front, it appears that RIM is working on two new tablets. The first, a 7-inch tablet with 3G+ connectivity, could be released in April. It would be powered by PlayBook OS 2.0 which is slated for release in February. A 10-inch LTE-enabled PlayBook would follow possibly in December 2012.

On the smartphone side, the first BlackBerry 10 smartphone (the BlackBerry London?) currently looks set for a September 2012 release. As for BlackBerry 7 devices, at least two Curves are in the works but these will target emerging markets.

On the software side, BlackBerry Mobile Fusion, a security and management toolset, is set for an April launch. It will be followed in the summer by the PlayBook Admin Service.

2012 is shaping up to be a long year for RIM but could end on a real high note…
