Research In Motion has so far only committed to the launch of a BlackBerry 10 device sometime in the “later half of 2012.” N4BB has now learned that RIM will announce this first device by mid-August and then launch it in the first half of October.
The timeline lines up well with news that BlackBerry 10 phones will begin undergoing carrier testing this summer.
As widely expected, this first BlackBerry 10 device will be touch-only. This could well be the BlackBerry London that has surfaced a number of times in previous rumours. A physical QWERTY device will then follow in Q1 2013. It’s not clear though if it will be a slider as recent rumours suggested.
RIM is also expected to promote its new device with a significant marketing investment.
