Rumour: Production underway for next-generation iPhone

AppleProduction of the next generation Apple iPhone has reportedly begun. Citing “reliable Chinese sources,” the Japanese site MacOtakara also reports that Apple has made a number of changes since a number of parts were leaked back in May. It explains that those parts were prototype parts rather than final ones.

Whereas past rumours suggested that the back would be mostly metal, it now appears that portions of the back will still be made of glass. It now looks like there will be glass panels at the top and bottom of the device with a larger metal panel between them. A small hole previously seen between the LED flash and camera lens has also disappeared in the final model.

Apple is widely expected to launch its next iPhone in the September or October time frame to catch the lucrative holiday season. It is also expected to sport a larger 4-inch Retina display with a 16:9 aspect ratio and other changes such as a new dock connector, a new dock connector, and a repositioned FaceTime camera.
