RIM CEO Thorsten Heins recently said that the company is conducting a “comprehensive review of strategic opportunities” and that any and all options, including a complete sale, were on the table for the company as it struggles to remain relevant in the mobile device space.
A rumour today suggests that one potential saviour cold be Microsoft. According to Benzinga‘s sources, it could be about to make a US$3.5 billion investment in RIM. It is not the first time that the two companies have been subject of such rumours.
Just yesterday, Microsoft bought some 800 AOL patents for about US$1 billion. It may now be eyeing some of RIM’s patents as well.
Not surprisingly, neither company would comment on the rumour.
