Apple’s rumoured iPad mini will be manufactured in Brazil according to a Japanese website MacOtakara report citing a “Chinese reliable source.” The plant in quesion is Foxconn’s recently opened facility in Jundiai, Brazil. It already assembles iPhones and iPads.
The tablet will be roughly the same height as the Google Nexus 7 but will be slightly wider. It’s not clear if it will use a 7.85-inch display or a smaller one. It will be about as thick as the current iPod touch, making it thinner than the Kindle Fire. Some models could sport 3G. Not all carriers currently selling the iPad will offer the smaller model. There are no details though on which carriers these might be.
The source adds that mass production will start in September with shipments to start in time for the holiday season. Apple will hold off making an announcement for now though. Could it unveil it alongside the next-generation iPhone sometime this fall? Earlier reports this week supported a launch around the holiday season as well.
