Rogers today announced that it has expanded its LTE network to cover both Calgary and Halifax. As a result, it now covers nearly 12 million Canadians (roughly a third of the population).
“We’re thrilled to offer our LTE network to even more Canadians in the east and the west,” said John Boynton, Rogers Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer. “Now, Calgarians and Haligonians can enjoy the benefits of speeds on their mobile devices comparable to what they would get at home. And, they can do it on an LTE network that is Canada’s fastest and largest for a robust and reliable experience.”
Rogers first launched LTE in Ottawa in July 2010 and has steadily been expanding its network since. It plans to expand to a further 25 additional cities across the country this year. Among them will be Edmonton “in the coming months.”
Rogers already offers seven LTE devices including two smartphones, a smartphone-tablet hybrid, two tablets, a Rocket Stick and a mobile hotspot. It will add both the Nokia Lumia 900 (available for pre-order) and the HTC One X to its lineup this month.
