Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 chipsets supply issues to continue until 2013

QualcommQualcomm Snapdragon S4 chipsets will remain in tight supply likely until the end of the year. Qualcomm’s supplier, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC), is still unable to meet current demand. At the company’s last annual general meeting, TSMC Chairman and CEO Morris Chang said that supply would continue to lag behind demand in the third quarter but would start to catch up in the fourth quarter. By early 2013, TSMC expects to be able to meet the demand for the 28nm chipset.

Qualcomm CEO Paul Jacobs added that his company continues to work with TSMC to improve supply. He told Reuters that “The goal is to get enough supply for everyone.”

Qualcomm is currently the only company to supply a 28nm chipset with integrated LTE. This will likely change with competitors such as NVIDIA expected to have their own solutions in the near future.
