Another smartphone manufacturer appears getting ready to jump into the 1080p display flagship smartphone arena. Since HTC unveiled the HTC J Butterfly [product information] in Japan last October, rumours of more devices from other manufacturers (including Samsung with its Galaxy S IV and Sony with its Odin and Yuga) planning similar devices have been popping up at a frantic pace. The latest one suggests that Pantech is also working on a 1080p smartphone.
Wi-Fi Alliance certifications and the GLBenchmark website appear to have revealed the existence of the Pantech Vega IM-A860S and IM-A860L. It’s likely that the two variants are intended for different carriers (likely Korea’s SK Telecom and LG U+). In terms of specifications, the Pantech Vega IM-A860 looks set to come with a 1.5GHz quad-core Qualcomm APQ8064 Snapdragon S4 Pro SoC (with Adreno 320 GPU), Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, LTE and 802.11 a/b/g/n Wi-Fi connectivity.
Pantech could unveil its Vega IM-A860 1080p smartphone as early as CES 2013.
