Nokia has posted some teaser images on its Facebook that suggest it will make some kind of announcement on Monday, June 18th. While the invitation could be tied to a Microsoft event on the same day, AllThingsD suggests instead that Nokia will announce that its PureView 808 smartphone is headed to the U.S. Shortly after its announcement, Nokia had indicated that it would not offer its latest Symbian smartphone in North America.
The first teaser image (below) shows a satellite image of Hawaii which happens to have the area code 808. That just happens to be the model number of the PureView. A second image is a close-up of a Roland TR 808 Drum Machine. Another 808 reference. AllThingsD‘s sources have also indicated that the event will be about U.S. availability of the device.
It remains to be seen if a carrier will be named at the announcement. It appears more likely that Nokia will instead offer it unlocked as it has done with other Symbian phones. There is no word yet on whether it will also make its way to Canada.
