Following a number of rumours suggested that Nokia would enter the tablet market, Marko Ahtisaari, Executive Vice President of Nokia Design, has confirmed to the Finnish magazine Kauppalehti Optio that the rumours are correct. “We are working on it,” he was quoted as saying. A third of his time is now being spent on the project.
Ahtisaari revealed no details about the tablet itself except to promise that it “would stand out among hundreds of iPad-challengers.” The latest rumours suggest that Nokia will release a 10-inch Windows 8 tablet possibly as early as Q4 2012.
It’s not the first time that Nokia has suggested that it would enter the tablet market. Nokia CEO Stephen Elop has also described the category as “interesting” in the past.
