Huawei today introduced what it calls “the world’s fastest quad-core smartphone,” the Huawei Ascend D quad. It will be powered by Huawei’s own quad-core K3V2 processor which can run as high as 1.5GHz.
“We’ve listened to people’s top demands from smartphones: speed, long-battery life, high quality visual and audio capabilities, and a compact, lightweight handset. The Huawei Ascend D quad exceeds these expectations,” said Richard Yu, Chairman of Huawei Device. “In January at the Consumer Electronics Show at Las Vegas, we achieved a world record for the world’s slimmest smartphone with the Huawei Ascend P1 S. We are proud to once again introduce a world-first at the 2012 Mobile World Congress with the Ascend D quad, the fastest smartphone.”

Huawei also announced two variants of the Ascend D quad. The Ascend D quad XL will offer the nearly the same specifications but will pack a faster 1.5GHz quad-core Huawei K3V2 processor and a larger 2,500mAh battery in a slightly thicker (10.9 millimeter) case. The Ascend D1 will come with a 1.5GHz dual-core TI OMAP4460 processor and slightly smaller 1,670mAh battery.
The Huawei Ascend D1 will launch first, starting in April. It will be followed in Q2 by both the Ascend D quad and Ascend D quad XL. Huawei will make all three available in North America (no specific mention of Canada) and other global markets.
