Motorola this week announced the Motorola ATRIX HD for both Bell Mobility in Canada and AT&T in the U.S. Phone Scoop has learned that, unlike other recent Motorola smartphones, the ATRIX HD does not support Motorola’s Webtop software and Lapdock accessories. A company spokesperson explained that the omission was a decision made to keep the price as low as possible:
“Motorola Atrix HD was designed for people who get excited about new technology that is relevant to their lifestyle, but are also price conscious. So we’re offering the experiences and software that this target would be most interested in and still be able to make it affordable.”
While the Lapdock and Webtop concept which includes the Firefox browser as well as access to both phone data and apps is really interesting, the execution and price of the dock has not lived up (yet) to the promise. Motorola recently previewed the next version of Webtop, suggesting that we will see it in future devices.
