Microsoft today announced that it will drop its developer-centric MIX event in favour of its “next major developer conference” coming “sometime in the coming year.” The event had been held annually for the past six years in the March or April time frame. As we look ahead to 2012 and beyond, the goal is to ensure that global Microsoft developer events are of the caliber that many of you experienced at BUILD last September, in addition to the thousands of online and local developer events we host around the world to support communities and connect directly with developers.
Microsoft also promised to share more information about its next developer event later this year.
MIX is not the first major event that Microsoft has dropped in recent weeks. In late December, it announced that it would no longer deliver keynotes or have a booth at the Consumer Electronic Show.
