Microsoft may have just given everyone their first hint of what the rumoured upcoming Microsoft Surface smartphone could look like. Two images showing people at work using their Surface tablets also show a mysterious Windows Phone 8 smartphone close at hand. The unbranded device features a design reminiscent of that of Microsoft’s tablet.

Would Microsoft really reveal its hand so early? A previous rumour suggested that Microsoft would launch its Surface smartphone in the first half of 2013. It’s doubtful and it is more likely that these are props meant to convey that Microsoft’s operating systems run across a gamut of devices. Keep this one squarely in the ‘wild rumour’ category.
