Microsoft’s hardware partners may not be too happy about its upcoming entry into the tablet market but that is not stopping Microsoft from looking beyond the first generation of Surface tablets. The company posted more than a dozen new job postings on its Microsoft Careers site between June and August, suggesting that it is building up the Surface team for upcoming devices. All the ads start with the following introduction:
“The Surface Team focuses on lighting up Microsoft experiences with touch first computing. A fundamental part of our strategy is having desirable and powerful devices that enable the experiences people want, and elicit their excitement. Creating these devices involves a close partnership between hardware and software engineers, designers, and manufacturing. We are currently building the next generation and Surface needs you!”
The positions Microsoft was looking to fill were quite varied. They ranged from a materials engineer to work with “new materials including metals, ceramics, plastics and thin films” and another senior engineer to look at “alternative power sources” among other things to to component specialists, audio engineers and packaging designers.
Not only is Microsoft set to play in the tablet space for the foreseeable future but it could also have some exciting new products to offer.
