RIM appears to be gearing up to launch some new PlayBook models. First came word that production of a 3G+ BlackBerry PlayBook had begun. Two FCC filings have now surfaced confirming that both it and an LTE version have obtained FCC approval.
The FCC documentation reveals little about the tablets but confirms that one will come with LTE connectivity and the other with HSPA+ connectivity. The former supports AT&T’s LTE bands indicating that all three major Canadian carriers (Bell, Rogers and TELUS) could also offer it. Both models will also sport 802.11 a/b/g/n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity.
The 3G+ PlayBook is rumoured to be announced in April. It remains to be seen if the LTE version would be announced at the same time or later.
