The latest version of Google Android appears to finally be making its way onto devices in a more significant fashion. The latest numbers on the Android Developers blog now shows that Android 4.0.x (Ice Cream Sandwich) accounts for 4.9% of all Android devices. This is a nice jump from its 2.9% share only a month ago.
Gingerbread remains the dominant version and grew to 64.4% while older versions such as Froyo showed further decrease.
The report does not break down the numbers by device. It’s not clear how much of Ice Cream Sandwich’s increase is due to the increasing number of Android 4.0 devices (such as the HTC One X) hitting the market as opposed to updates for existing devices that are now rolling out.
The numbers are based on Android devices that have accessed Google Play within the 14-day period ending on May 1st.
