HTC to modify HTC One X design to fix Wi-Fi hardware issue

HTC One XHTC has confirmed that some HTC One X smartphones suffer from an odd issue where Wi-Fi connectivity can improve when squeezed a certain way, suggesting a loose connection between some components. A statement issued by HTC Europe adds that it is already modifying its manufacturing process to improve the Wi-Fi antennae connection points:

“After investigating isolated reports of WiFi connectivity issues in the HTC One X, we have identified a fix that strengthens the area of the phone around the WiFi antennae connection points. While many customers have not experienced any problems with signal strength, we have taken immediate steps to implement a solution in our production process to prevent this issue from happening in the future. HTC is committed to making sure every customer has a great experience and we apologize for any inconvenience this issue may have caused while we conducted a thorough investigation.”

While it is still unclear how widespread the issue really is, the news suggests that HTC One X users experiencing this issue should be able to get their devices replaced under warranty.

Update: AndroidCentral has received confirmation from HTC that only the quad-core Tegra 3 version of the One X appears to be affected. If you suspect that you are affected by this issue, contact HTC customer support in your country.
