The saga of the HTC Desire HD Android 4.0 upgrade has taken another twist. Last week, TELUS cancelled the update due to “poor device performance during testing.” An HTC spokesperson has now told Android Central that it is still planning to offer the upgrade:
“We remain committed to providing customers with the latest software updates when possible. As such, we are pleased to confirm we are still on schedule to deliver an Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade for both the HTC Desire HD and Desire S.”
Given that Android 4.0 is running on devices with lower specifications than the HTC Desire HD, it’s not clear what led to TELUS determining that this smartphone could not support it.
TELUS has not updated its Device OS Upgrade schedule so it remains to be seen if it will reverse course based on this latest information. Or will we see TELUS skip this update while other carriers offer it to their customers?
