Google this week introduced a new way of doing a search on your mobile device. Now you can simply handwrite your search query on your smartphone or tablet. Not surprisingly, Google calls this new way to search Handwrite.
Say you’re standing on a busy street corner, in a bumpy taxi ride, talking with a friend, or sitting on the couch with your tablet. Handwrite enables you to search by just writing letters with your finger most anywhere on your device’s screen—there’s no keyboard that covers half of the screen and no need for hunt-and-peck typing.
Once enabled, Handwrite is activated by clicking on the cursive “g” icon in the lower right corner of the screen. Pretty much the whole screen can then be used to write your search query. Block letters work best and good penmanship will definitely help Google understand what you’re looking for!
Handwrite is still in beta. Google warns that it works better on some browsers than others and that it works best in Chrome. It also requires iOS 5+, a Android 2.3+ phone, or an Android 4.0+ tablet.
