Rumours of a Google tablet resurfaced today. DisplaySearch analyst Richard Shim expects that production of the 7-inch tablet will start in April with an initial run of up to 2 million units.
The only new detail Shim added is that Google’s tablet could run at a resolution of 1280 by 800 pixels, slightly higher than the Amazon Kindle Fire with its 7-inch 1024 by 600 pixel display. Previous reports suggested that the 7-inch tablet would sell for about US$199 or below.
Shim added that Google may still be deciding on how to market its tablet. Will it be a premium device (as Google’s Schmidt has hinted) or will it compete more directly with the Kindle Fire as an entry- or mid-level tablet?
