Google CEO Eric Schmidt kicked off today’s Motorola-Verizon event to give a brief overview of where Android stood. According to his latest figures, 1.3 million Android devices are now activated every day. Some 480 million Android devices are currently active across the globe.
The news was not all good though. Schmidt revealed that Android tablets only account for about 70,000 activations per day. This amounts to a 5% share of activations. He acknowledged that Google was “late to market” with regards to tablets but suggests that this is now growing “very fast.” He gave no numbers to indicate how well Google’s own Nexus 7 was doing though.
It was only in June that Andy Rubin, SVP of Mobile at Google, announced that Google was activating one million devices a day.
