Earth Day: Where to recycle your old cell phone

As we celebrate Earth Day, the Canadian Wireless Telecommunications Association (CWTA) reminds us of its “Recycle My Cell” program, Canada’s free cell phone recycling program which makes it easy to dispose of used cell phones, smartphones, pagers, wireless air cards, batteries, chargers, headsets and other accessories.

“The continued success of the Recycle My Cell program shows that Canadians take their environmental responsibility seriously,” said CWTA President & CEO Bernard Lord. “The ability of free programs such as Recycle My Cell to make a difference depends on the commitment to environmental stewardship by consumers, industry and government. We thank all of those who make this program possible.”

Over 3,500 Recycle My Cell drop-off sites exist across Canada. To find the nearest one, simply visit www.RecycleMyCell.ca (in English) or www.Recyclemoncell.ca (in French) and enter your postal code. You’ll be given the 10 nearest drop-off locations. Alternatively, you can obtain printable postage-paid labels on the website to mail your device in for recycling. Devices will be accepted, regardless of brand or condition.

According to the site, approximately 96% of the materials in an average mobile device are recyclable.
