While good progress is being made on CyanogenMod 9, currently at the Release Candidate 1 stage, Google’s announcement of Android 4.1 Jelly Bean has prompted the CyanogenMod team to outline its plans for this latest version of Android in a Google+ post. Get ready for CM10:
Many have asked whether JB will be CM9.1 or CM10. Keeping with the pattern thus far, every newly named AOSP update results in a bump to the CM major version. This has the added benefit of fitting into the pattern of [insert codename position in the english alphabet] = CM version. Examples being: G is the 7th letter thus CM7, I is the 9th letter thus CM9 and J = 10.
Without having seen the source code, the team expects that the changes will not be as dramatic as Android 4.0 was and “should not be a huge pain to merge.” They also expect that any device that met CM9 criteria should support CM10.
CyanogenMod will release a stable CM9.0.0 as well as any needed point releases. After that, they will focus on CM7 and CM10 given that they expect most CM9 devices to eventually jump onto CM10.
As usual, no timelines were given.
