ChevronWP7 Labs announced back in April that they would no longer provide Windows Phone unlock codes after deciding to “discontinue the ChevronWP7 Labs experiment.” Yesterday they revealed that unlocked phones will start to relock after August 11th. The process will not be automatic but will occur as soon as devices are connected to Microsoft’s Zune PC software.
The team behind the ChevronWP7 tool is now compiling the list of users who qualify for a free upgrade to a one-year membership of Windows Phone App Hub. It expects to provide this list to Microsoft in time to have the accounts set up before the August 11th deadline. The membership will allow developers to keep their devices unlocked as long as they keep their membership active (by paying once the free year is up).
In the post comments, Rafael Rivera, a member of ChevronWP7 Labs, suggests that the team is working on a new project: “We’re not giving up either! Stay tuned!”
