Huawei first launched its MediaPad, a 7-inch tablet, back in June 2011. It was among the first to ship with Android 3.2. The company this week announced that it will continue to ship the MediaPad but will preload it with Android 4.0 starting this quarter. It will also offer an Android 4.0 OTA update for existing MediaPads.
Huawei also announced a new MediaPad color series consisting of shadow black, classic brown, and passion pink. “In a tablet market defined by staid black and white tablets, the new colorful MediaPad offers a personalized look without the need for an external case,” said Richard Yu, Chairman, Huawei Device. Like the original version, these will come with 1.2GHz dual-core Qualcomm processor, Android 3.2 (why not Android 4.0?), a 7-inch WXGA (1280×800) display.
The MediaPad color series will be available in selected markets in Q1 2012. It remains to be seen if it will hit North American shores.
