The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) today released its annual overview of the Canadian communications sector. The latest edition of the Communications Monitoring Report looks at Canada’s various communications services including television, radio, the Internet, and wireless services in 2011.
Canada now has 27.4 million million subscribers, 6% more than in 2010 when there were 25.8 million. Rogers, Bell, and TELUS control the lion share of those with newer competitors (including Mobilicity, Public Mobile, and WIND Mobile) accounting for 4% of subscribers (or about 1.1 million), up from 2% a year ago.
ARPU (Average Revenues Per User) rose to CA$57.98 monthly in large part thanks to increased data usage.
Canada’s wireless network covers 99% of Canadians but only 20% of our geographic area. LTE is making quick inroads and already covers 45% of Canadians.
