Research In Motion yesterday announced that it would hold its BlackBerry 10 launch on January 30th, 2013. It will unveil its first two BlackBerry 10 smartphones at the event and announce availability details at that time. In an interview with Reuters, RIM Chief Operating Officer Kristian Tear added that devices will be available in stores “not too long after” the event.
Tear explained that “we’re working hard right now to make sure all the bits and pieces and all the details are in place for the date, when the devices will be available for consumers and enterprises.”
Given that RIM expects to have its devices out in Q1 2013, it looks like “not too long after” will be no more than 8 weeks.
RIM’s BlackBerry 10 devices are currently undergoing certification with 50 carriers across the world. Tear indicated that the number might actually be higher now as additional carriers are still coming onboard.
