Despite some conciliatory hints, two days of mediated discussions between Apple and Samsung’s CEOs failed to produce a settlement over their U.S. court case. According to The Korea Times, neither side was willing to compromise and “no clear agreement” was reached. Both companies stuck to their arguments with Samsung still looking for Apple to pay royalties on its patents and Apple insisting that Samsung copied its designs in a number of products.
Court documents show that the two CEOs met for a total of 16 hours. Neither company has yet filed documents about these discussions. A Samsung spokesperson added that the company was “unable to provide any details of the meeting.”
The mediation talks were a result of a court order by U.S. District Judge Lucy Koh. With the two parties ordered to attend rather than doing so of their own free will, failure was always a likelier scenario.
It now appears that the two companies will meet in court in July.
