Apple today announced that it received over 2 million iPhone 5 pre-orders in the first 24 hours alone. This doubles its previous record set by the iPhone 4S.
“iPhone 5 pre-orders have shattered the previous record held by iPhone 4S and the customer response to iPhone 5 has been phenomenal,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. “iPhone 5 is the best iPhone yet, the most beautiful product we’ve ever made, and we hope customers love it as much as we do.”
Demand has now outstripped available supply. Apple expects that “the majority of pre-orders” will be delivered on September 21st, more recent pre-orders may not be delivered until October.
The Apple iPhone 5 will go on sale on September 21st. If you have not pre-ordered yours yet and want to get one on the first day, get ready to line up for it.
