Both Acer and ASUS are set to pull out of the netbook market. Both companies have seen sales drop as customers shift their attention to tablets and ultrabooks that offer better performance at competitive prices.
ASUS, which launched the first netbook in 2007 and effectively launched the product category, has already stopped producing new Eee PC models and is now focused on selling off its remaining inventory. The company will focus more attention on its family of Eee Pad Transformer tablets.
Acer has yet to officially confirm its withdrawal from the netbook market but has not announced any new netbook models to replace discontinued models.
