78.88 metre throw wins first Canadian Mobile Phone Throwing Championship

The first annual Canadian Mobile Phone Throwing Championship took place this weekend in Toronto. Sponsored by Mobilicity, the event saw Jeremiah Sammy get crowned as the first Canadian champion as he threw an old mobile phone 78.88 metres across the football field at the University of Toronto’s Varsity Centre. Sammy won himself $5000, a Samsung Galaxy S III and 1 year of unlimited data, talk and text.

James Turner came in second place with a cellphone toss of 48.46 metres and Ziggy Strawczynski came in third at 43.89 metres.

Sammy’s throw was not enough to crack the world record held by Finland’s Ere Karjalainen who threw a cellphone 101.46 metres but it now stands as the Canadian record.
