Google chairman Eric Schmidt recently revealed plans to launch its own Android tablet within the next six months. Details are now emerging about what this device could look like. Citing its usual “supply chain” sources, Digitimes reports that Google is looking at taking on Amazon and its Kindle Fire tablet rather than Apple and its dominant iPad tablet.
The report suggests that Google’s tablet will run Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) and come with a 7-inch display. It could be priced below US$199 to compete against the Kindle Fire. At that price, it remains to be seen if it will be the “tablet of the highest quality” promised by Schmidt.
The Google tablet (it remains to be seen if it would be branded as a Nexus device) could launch as early as March or April.
