7.85-inch Apple iPad coming by end of year?

AppleRumours of a smaller 7.85-inch iPad model have resurfaced. Citing “industry sources,” Digitimes is reporting that Apple’s suppliers have begun to deliver samples of the smaller iPad for verification prior to volume production. If all goes well, volume production could start in the third quarter, suggesting that the smaller iPad could be available in time for the next holiday season.

The report adds that the smaller iPad could sell for between US$249 and US$299. This would price it below the rumoured 8GB iPad 2 that Apple could announce next week. It would also compete with Amazon’s Kindle Fire and the Barnes & Noble Nook Tablet.
