The rumours that HTC was working on a 5-inch 1080p smartphone have proven accurate. HTC and Japanese carrier KDDI today unveiled the HTC J Butterfly. It will be available before the end of the year.

The HTC J Butterfly with launch in Japan with KDDI in December. Rumours have also pointed to a similar model coming to Verizon and it may also surface as an upcoming Google Nexus smartphone. One thing is clear: It’s unlikely to remain a Japan-only device for too long.
