How quickly things change. After denying rumours over the weekend that Windows Phone Mango had reached the RTM (Release To Manufacturing) stage, Terry Myerson, Microsoft’s corporate vice president of engineering for Windows Phone today confirmed that Mango had been delivered to manufacturers.
This marks the point in the development process where we hand code to our handset and mobile operator partners to optimize Mango for their specific phone and network configurations. Here on the Windows Phone team, we now turn to preparing for the update process. The Mango update for current Windows Phone handsets will be ready this fall, and of course will come pre-installed on new Windows Phones.
A tweet by Bill Cox, Microsoft’s Director of Communications for the Windows Phone Division, indicates that Mango will be in the hands of customers in the fall:
It’s official: @WindowsPhone Mango signed off today and headed to partners; coming to customers this fall.
Microsoft showed off Windows Phone Mango back in May along with many of the new features that it would come with (including multitasking, a new version of Internet Explorer, and Threads that tie together various social media tools.
