WIND Mobile yesterday announced that it had completed its first successful 4G live trials. Customers involved in the LTE tests saw average download speeds between 50 and 60Mbps and improved multitasking performance (concurrent emailing, browsing, file downloads, etc). WIND concluded that “the network is in line to advance to the next evolution of 4G compatible technologies.”
WIND also announced the introduction of High Definition Voice Calling (HD Voice). This technology promises to improve audio quality and reduce background noise. It will be initially supported on the Alcatel Tribe handset with more HD Voice-ready 3G handsets to be released later.
WIND Mobile is not the only Canadian carrier to have begun testing LTE. Both Bell Mobility and Rogers Wireless have also begun conducting tests.
