Remember those rumours that Verizon would pass on the Samsung Galaxy S II smartphone? According to a BGR source, “Verizon doesn’t think the Samsung GALAXY S II will be competitive with the iPhone 5 when it launches.” So what Android smartphone could take on the next iPhone?
BGR‘s “close source” suggests that this device could be none other than the Verizon DROID Prime by Samsung (which has been the topic of past rumours as the Nexus Prime). The DROID Prime (model SCH-i515 perhaps) would be the first smartphone to launch with Android Ice Cream Sandwich and Verizon would have an exclusive on it.
An October launch appears to be in the cards. It’s unclear if other parts of the world would see the device, perhaps rebranded as the Google Nexus Prime.
