Verizon today announced that the Apple iPhone 4 was headed its way in early February. It already sells the Apple iPad but only the Wi-Fi only model (bundled with a Verizon MiFi mobile hotspot). But that will soon change. According to Verizon CFO Francis Shammo, the carrier will soon offer an iPad model that can connect to its cellular network.
Shammo did not give any availability information. He also did not specify whether the iPad would work on Verizon’s 3G data network or its new 4G LTE network.
Rumours in late December suggested that the upcoming Apple iPad 2 could come in three variants: Wi-Fi only, UMTS/Wi-Fi and CDMA/Wi-Fi connectivity. This suggests that Apple could announce a Verizon iPad version when it unveils the iPad 2.
