Only days after confirming that there was a signal issue with the Galaxy Nexus, Verizon has indicated that it will provide a software update. But it does not appear to be what people likely had in mind. The fix will consist of adjusting the device’s signal strength indicator rather than making any changes to the radio firmware. In a statement, Verizon explains:
There is no issue with the performance of the device. There is a difference in the way the signal is translated into bars on the Samsung Galaxy Nexus compared to other smart phones. A future software update will adjust the signal strength indicator to more closely match other Verizon Wireless devices.
The news is unlikely to satisfy users who have been reporting dropped calls and lower than average signal strength. One suggestion indicates that the issue may not be with the Galaxy Nexus but with Verizon’s LTE coverage and possible areas where signal is weaker. Galaxy Nexus or network? Only time will tell…
