When Mozilla halted development of its Firefox for Windows Mobile in March 2010, it indicated that it had no plans to develop a mobile browser for Windows Phone 7. In an interview with OnSoftware, Jay Sullivan, VP of Products at Mozilla, has reconfirmed that there are no current plans to offer Firefox Mobile for the Windows Phone platform. Asked about new platforms, Sullivan said:
“At the moment we are focusing on Android in terms of the browser. For those other platforms we may do things like Firefox Home, so you can fire up any browser and get to your Firefox data. We’re not looking to bringing Firefox itself to Windows Phone 7 at this point.”
Mozilla is now devoting more resources to the mobile experience. Sullivan indicated that the mobile front-end team is now almost as large as that of the desktop.
Sullivan also confirmed the demise of Fennec as a brand, calling it a “project code name.”
