That promised HP meeting led by CEO Meg Whitman has indeed taken place but there is still no final decision on what to do with webOS. Whitman told employees that “It’s really important to me to make the right decision, not the fast decision.” Despite rumours that HP was actively looking to sell the division, a decision could still be three to four weeks out.
HP has not completely ruled out a return to webOS hardware but acknowledges that significant investment would be required. If there is a return, it will likely focus on tablets as “things get more complicated if you add in phones.”
Whitman attributed some of the delay to the fact that she also had to decide what to do with HP’s PC business (which HP will keep after all) and deal with the Autonomy acquisition.
