Sprint Wireless today announced that it will begin adding a US$10 per month Premium Data add-on charge to new smartphone activations starting on January 30th.
The charge will assist Sprint in offering simple and affordable unlimited plans for its customers while maintaining a wireless network able to meet the growing appetite for a richer mobile experience. Subscribers with smartphones will still receive the best value in wireless, with features such as Any Mobile, Anytime offered nationwide only by Sprint.
According Sprint, data traffic on many mobile networks is already doubling each year. The trend will only accelerate as more customers opt for smartphones and other connected devices such as tablets and notebooks.
Previously, Sprint had applied the Premium Data add-on charge only on its 4G smartphones.
