After announcing a while back that there would be no further Android upgrades for the Xperia X10, Sony Ericsson has done an about-face and announced a forthcoming upgrade to Android 2.3.
We have listened to our consumers. In addition, the development of the software for our new 2011 range of Xperia phones gave us a solution that made it possible to deliver Gingerbread on Xperia X10.
Sony Ericsson will release the update in late Q2 or early Q3 but only for the unlocked version of the Xperia X10. It will decide later whether it will move forward with carrier versions but warns that “some of you may not get this upgrade.”
The full scope of the update is also still being worked out. Some current features will disappear, including Mediascape which will be replaced by new widgets and the Sony Ericsson Backup and Restore client.
Those of you with the Rogers version of the Xperia X10 will need to keep your fingers crossed…
